Birthday shopping for my two girls is always so easy. I spend every minute of the day with them. I know them better than they know themselves and I know what interests them the most.

Shopping for kids that are not mine is another story. I don’t spend as much time with them and often only see some of them for a couple of hours every few weeks during play dates. I also hate shopping in some stores where I constantly need to find the suggested child age on every package. That can be time consuming, and time is something that is very limited for me. When my daughter is invited to friends birthday parties, I am often tempted to go the gift card route, but that is no fun for a kid.

Kids like instant gratification. They like to see their present, wrapped in a big box and tied together with a big bow. They want to unwrap it and play with it at that moment. Not the next day, or when mom and dad can get them out to the store.

Once I found it in the store, it didn’t disappoint. I talked to a staff member about the item and she told me that it was a huge hit with her niece who is close to the same age that I was shopping for, so I picked it up. Since I am aware that not everyone has the same tastes as me, I will be including a gift receipt with it in case the parents want to exchange it for something else.
