As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) across North America. During this month, major breast cancer charities come together to increase awareness and run campaigns in an effort to raise enough money to continue researching this disease with the hopes of finally being able to manage, control, prevent and even cure breast cancer.
It also acts as a reminder to women everywhere to make their own health a top priority and to get themselves checked out. As with every cancer, early detection is one of the most important factors in battling this disease.
TELUS is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the TELUS Go Pink campaign, and you can help in two ways:
- TELUS will donate $25 to The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for every pink BlackBerry Curve 9360 sold during the month of October. So if you’ve been toying with the idea of getting a new BlackBerry (and a pink one no less!), now is the time to buy one.
- The TELUS “Celebrate Your Breast Friends” application is live on the Telus Facebook page. TELUS will donate $1 for each person who tries out the application. To load the application, go to the Telus Facebook page, like them, then go to the Celebrate Your Breast Friends link on the left hand side. And once your are done, the photos load in to your own photos so you can access them and turn your profile picture pink for the month of October like I did.
I am excited that I was selected as one of 25 bloggers to help spread the word about this month’s campaign, and as part of the campaign, I am also in a blogger contest to win my own #PinkNetwork getaway with my closest friends.
I love my #pinknetwork of friends with all of my heart. I met them at different times in my life and I can’t imagine that I would be the same person I am today without them. They give me the freedom to be myself, to speak my mind and to turn off that filter that separates my thoughts from what actually comes out of my mouth. And we all love to laugh; usually at ourselves, at the stupid things we do or have done. Spending time with Nancy, Lesley and Stephanie rejuvenates my soul. I look forward to every moment I get to spend with all of them, and I truly miss them every day.

As life goes on, situations change and my three friends and I are spread across three provinces now. I haven’t seen everyone together since my wedding, over six years ago. Time really flies by faster as you get older doesn’t it?
My favourite memory of a weekend away was a trip to Las Vegas, over 10 years ago. We walked, ate and laughed our way up one side of the strip and back down the other. My friends and I are foodies and I don’t think I ate for a week after we got back. On one outing, we walked down a flight of stairs in to a restaurant to eat and there was just so much good food. After we ate, we had to climb the stairs to get back out. I walked slowly up the stairs chatting and when I got to the top, I turned around to ask Lesley a question and she was still at the bottom clutching on to the railing, hunching over and looking at me like there was no way she was going to walk up the stairs.
I am truly thankful to have my Pink Network of friends in my life and although we don’t get the chance to chat as much as we did ‘back in the day’, I know that in an instant, they would all be right by my side if I really needed them. We’ve supported each other through love, loss and everything in between and I don’t tell them enough, how much they mean to me.
So, help TELUS support Breast Cancer Awareness month and at the very least, load the app on Facebook and turn your profile pink for the month of October to stand up and be counted in the fight against Breast Cancer.
And last but definitely not least, take the time to watch this video below and either get checked out yourself, or tell someone in your #pinknetwork how much they mean to you and to get checked out.

Thanks for sharing the information and your story! I wish you the best in the contest!
Thanks TerriAnn.
