When you become a parent, everyone has an opinion and loves to offer advice. People mean well, but they don’t always realize that you didn’t ask their thoughts. When I had our first daughter, and now our second, I struggled with certain things. I still struggle many days. This doesn’t mean that I want everyone to swoop in and help. I want to figure things out on my own.
There is a satisfaction in working through an obstacle, and each new hurdle that I overcome on my own further validates my abilities in being a great mom. So when I hit a road block and I am lost, I like to first turn to websites and groups for parents. It gives me the freedom to look around for my own answers without having people jump in to save the day. After looking around, I can always ask second (or third) opinions, then I turn to family and friends.
If you like to take a stab at your own problems first, then I have a Facebook page that you can add to your list of resources.
You can check out the Baby and You page for topics for mom (or dad) and baby. Brought to you from Loblaw companies, there are weekly flyers, deals and coupons and some good conversation on the wall. The page also features Canadian Mom bloggers, Mommy Moment (dedicated to all things Mom) and Growing Your Baby (focusing on all things baby).
There is a question tab on the left side of the page (you have to click ‘more’ first) that offers some great conversation and if you have that one question that is eating at you, you are welcome to post on their wall as well. You can also stop by to gush about your baby’s milestones. Did they just sleep through the night for the first time? Stop in and gush share all you want.
Disclosure – I am participating in the Baby and You program by Mom Central Canada on behalf of Loblaw Companies. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own.
