My five must-have items in my purse (besides my wallet and keys) are:

Lip balm, gloss or lipstick (depending on what I am doing and where I am going)

I have never been punched in the face in my life (this is not an open invitation), but I can imagine that having a cold sore at its peak of ugliness hurts way more.

How does something so small, hurt so much? Even when it is just starting and it is still unnoticeable under the skin, it throbs and tingles. It feels as though the cold sore is going to pull a stunt like something out of the movie ‘Alien’ and burst out of my lip.

Cold sores start out as bumps under the skin. They become red, puffy, filled with all kinds of grossness and then once they dry out, the can get scaly and scabby. It is all I can think about and it takes my confidence away, which is actually hard to do. I am a talkative, outgoing person, but when a cold sore decides to join the party that is my face, I instantly become reserved.

For this reason, a cold sore cream is on my list of necessities for what I carry in my purse. And my favorite cold sore remedy cream, since I first discovered it, is Abreva. I’ve used Abreva for years and my top reason for using it is because as soon as I begin using it, it stops the spread of the sore, so if I can get to it when it is still just a tingle under the skin, it is usually unnoticeable.
