Silver Hills Sprouted Bakery Review & Giveaway (Closed)

I have been looking for ways to incorporate more fiber in to our meals. In my opinion, a lot of foods that are listed as ‘high fiber’ are hard to eat. I find them either too bland or too heavy.

When I heard about Silver Hills, a Canadian company and about how they make a sprouted grain bread that has three times the fiber, it piqued my interest.

At Silver Hills, their bread isn’t made in a couple of hours. There’s a caring process behind each loaf that gets you the best taste and nutritional value per slice. First, they get their grains from farms in Canada that are certified non-GMO.

The Big 16They sprout organic grain for up to 36 hours, then they mashed it into a dough that forms the base of their bread. It’s the sprouting of the grain that increases the nutritional content. By doing that, they retaining all the bran, germ and endosperm, and provide up to three times the fiber in a slice compared to regular whole grain bread on the market today.

Not only that, but their bread is made without flour, is 100% kosher certified and vegan and contains NO chemicals, NO preservatives or stabilizers, NO fats, oils or anything that is genetically modified.

But what about the taste?

We have tried three different loaves so far (Steady Eddie, Squirrelly, and The Big 16). They are naturally sweetened and the taste is great. I haven’t yet found a favorite, I like them all. Baby Bird eats them up too.

Steady EddieJust this morning I made Baby Bird toast while using The Big 16 with a little margarine and honey and Baby Bird asked for seconds. My mouth watered as I cut her bread for her.

To give you an idea of the all-natural ingredients, I am including the list of ingredients from the Steady Eddie bread here:

Organic whole sprouted wheat*, organic whole sprouted rye*, organic sprouted whole soybeans*, organic whole apples*, vital wheat gluten, water, yeast, sea salt.

To put it into perspective, check out the ingredient list of a leading brand 100% Whole Wheat bread found in our stores:

Whole wheat flour, water, wheat gluten, high fructose corn syrup, contains 2% of less of: soybean oil, salt, molasses, yeast, mono and diglycerides, exthoxylated mono and diglycerides, dough conditioners (sodium stearoyl lactylate, calcium iodate, calcium dioxide), datem, calcium sulfate, vinegar, yeast nutrient (ammonium sulfate), extracts of malted barley and corn, dicalcium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, calcium propionate (to retain freshness).

Which one do you want in your system? Better yet, which one do you want your child to consume on a daily basis?

And the icing on the cake — the bags are biodegradable too!

Now I didn’t mention Papa Bird in my review. He is not a fan of anything that isn’t rye bread so I would LOVE a rye bread option from Silver Hills if you are taking requests ;)

Silver Hills can be found in most provinces and territories across Canada and six States in the US so far, check out their store locator to find a store near you.

Silver Hills is giving away a coupon to anyone who can help them out with a short market research survey. Go to their survey site to fill out the questionnaire and get your coupon to try it out yourself.
