3M Safety Eyeglasses, Ear Muffs and Packing Tape: Review & Giveaway

June 28, 2010 · 158 comments

Summer is a time to get outside and take care of all of those projects that have been calling to you through the cold winter months. When planning your projects, one topic that gets overlooked sometimes either due to forgetfulness or laziness is safety.

It’s been a long winter here, and since we moved in to our house in April, Papa Bird has been planning our tool shed and he’s almost done building it. He was over the moon to hear that he would be helping me to review some safety and painting equipment from 3M because he is a huge fan of staying safe.

As I opened the package, Papa Bird sat fidgeting at the table. I like to take things out of the package and get a good look at them when I first receive them and that is what I was doing, completely oblivious to the anticipation building inside of my husband.

He broke the silence by saying “You’re making me wait.” I handed him the items and I’ve barely seen them since!

3M’s AO Safety Sunglasses
RIVET+AO+Safety+Glasses 3M Safety Eyeglasses, Ear Muffs and Packing Tape: Review & Giveaway“You don’t know what you’ve got, till it’s gone” rings so true in DIY projects. We take for granted that we can see and hear and we just accept that we always will. It just takes a flying nail, splintered wood flying from a table saw, spray paint, etc and it could be gone in less than a second.

We reviewed the AO Safety Rivet Safety Glasses and as I type this I realize that Papa Bird never did let me try them on. Fear not, he had a lot to say about them that I will add here, but I guess I know who owns those now :)

3M Safety Eyeglasses, Ear Muffs and Packing Tape: Review & Giveaway
The sunglasses came with their own safety carrying case to protect them and for easy storage. Papa Bird said that the safety glasses looked just like sunglasses and he found himself still wearing them around the yard well after he was done with his projects.

The safety glasses are also scratch resistant and have UV protection. Best of all, they meet or exceed Industrial Safety Standards. They retail for approximately $29.99 and can be found at your local hardware store.

3M’s AO Professional Ear Muffs

3M safety ear muffsI did get to try these out while helping to cut wood for the tool shed. I hate the sound table saws make. It is so high pitched and gives me an almost instant headache. The safety ear muffs takes the loud, sharp edge off of surrounding sounds and gives your poor ear drums a break.

We are all going to lose some of our hearing as we age, but protecting what you still have left will prolong the length of time that you get to hear your beautiful child’s voice, so protect your hearing and make sure you stay safe when using loud equipment.

The ear muffs fit snugly to your head and are adjustable for many different head sizes. It fit both of us just fine and we are a big headed family. Hey, big heads = big brains… just sayin’.

These can also be found at your local hardware store for around $31.99 and should be in every toolbox this summer.

3M Safety Eyeglasses, Ear Muffs and Packing Tape: Review & Giveaway
3M’s Scotch 30% Painter’s Masking Tape
Scotch has recently launched a Canadian made Scotch Painter’s Masking Tape which now made with 30% post-consumer recycled fibers. So the home renovator has one more option in choosing to go green this summer, and it’s Canadian-made. If that’s not green enough for you, the tape core contains more than 90% recycled fibres, and the product shipping cartons are made using 100% recycled fibres.

When I compared the 30% masking tape to the regular Scotch masking tape that we normally use, I couldn’t tell the difference, so you can go green without giving up any of the quality you are used to.

3M is also giving away a Stay Reno Safe package (1 Safety Glasses, 1 Safety Ear Muffs, 2 rolls of 30% Painter’s Masking Tape) to one lucky This Bird’s Day reader as a giveaway (Value of over $60)…

In our house, my husband is currently renovating the living room / dining room areas. He is at the priming stage of the walls. We are also going to rip of the parkay floors and put in hardwood. And, replace all the baseboards. We could really use this prize for our project!

What a great prize! I would immediately give this to my Uncle Keith. He works as a self employed carpenter and I know he would appreciate anything that he did not have to buy. In this economy things are tough, and I would not want him to skimp on safety. With this package, I know he would be safe. Thanks for offering this giveaway.
