Shout! Factory is releasing The Madeline Movie: Lost in Paris on DVD on April 13, 2010. It is about Madeline, the smallest of 12 girls living together in Miss Clavel’s boarding school in Paris.
Narrated by Christopher Plummer, it tells the story of Madeline, who didn’t think she had any family. She receives notice that her Uncle Horst (Jason Alexander) is coming from Vienna to see her and to take her away to be with the family she always thought she wanted.
Soon, Madeline realizes that she is in trouble her Uncle Horst isn’t who he claims to be and she leaves behind a trail so that her friends from the boarding school can find her. She is sent to sew for Mme. La Croque (Lauren Bacall). Madeline meets a new group of girls, ones less fortunate than those she knew at the boarding school and she quickly makes friends. While they work together to escape their captors, her boarding school friends are working just as hard to find her.
Both worlds collide in a wonderful daring escape and Madeline realizes that ‘family’ doesn’t just include those you are related to.
I enjoyed this movie, it had a lot of singing, an innocence I loved, a great story about real friends and the illustration was wonderful. It reminds me of the old cartoons I watched as a child. This is a great addition to any children’s DVD collection.
I also received a link to a downloadable Madeline colouring sheet for you to print out.
The Madeline Movie: Lost in Paris is 75 minutes in length and will be released in stores on April 13, 2009.
This DVD is also available for pre-order and purchase online at Amazon.ca for price of $16.99. It is also available at Amazon.com for $13.49.
