Released on March 2, 2010, VeggieTales brings you their new DVD Pistachio: The Little Boy That Woodn’t on DVD!
Baby Bird clapped with excitement when we received this DVD in the mail, then pointed at our DVD and said “Go!”.
Based loosely on the story of Pinocchio, this story is about Gelato who is a lonely toymaker. Except for three ducks that followed him home one day and an assistant named Cricket, he is pretty much on his own. One day he carves a toy out of Pistachio wood and the toy comes to life.
Gelato tries to tell Pistachio that there is a lot to learn before heading out on his own and tries to begin teaching Pistachio about the world around him. Pistachio has other plans and believes that he doesn’t need to be taught anything he doesn’t already know.
He heads out into the world and meets some questionable characters who quickly begin taking advantage of him. Will Pistachio find his way out of the mess he caused?
This is a great story about listening to your parents and realizing that part of growing up is by learning from others.
Baby Bird loves the music that plays with all of the VeggieTales DVDs. We sit together on the floor and wiggle when the music plays. She is also starting to recognize that the characters are vegetables and gets excited when she notices and correctly points out the different vegetables by name. She also liked the “Where Have All the Staplers Gone” song, so did her mom!
I have a couple of free downloads from Big Idea to go along with my post:
- download a couple of colouring pages of Pistachio: page 1 or page 2
- download a Family Time Fun Games sheet of activities to do that relate to the movie
VeggieTales: Pistachio is available through the Big Idea website for $14.99.

So is my daughter – I think it's the bright colours. I love the humour.
