Today I am reviewing the third of three books from Chicken Soup for the Soul titled Devotional Stories for Women. The stories in this book are ones of friendship, faith, and comfort that affirm God’s unconditional love and His wisdom.
This is a daily devotional book for women. It covers life lessons, parenting, motherhood, marriage, self esteem and more. Sometimes its nice to take a break from our hectic lives full of appointments, chores and the all around busy-ness that clouds our ability to sit back, take it all in and start again.
I have a favorite story in this book as well. It’s called “The Turquoise Shoes” by Susan M. Heim. It’s a story about signs and how to keep an eye out for the small nudges that life throws at you. In the story, the author wants a specific pair of Turquoise shoes so badly but circumstance after circumstance prevent her from getting them. Either the store was too far away, or they were out of stock, or they weren’t available for online purchase. Disregarding all of those subtle hints that maybe the shoes just weren’t meant to be, she finally finds them and buys them — only to find out that in the end, they fit horribly and are really uncomfortable.
I will keep this story in mind as we go through our house hunting process and will try my best to read those clues and not get too upset if we can’t get the house we want.
