Shortly before Baby Bird got her first teeth, we gave her a baby toothbrush to chew on a couple of times a day. We wanted to get her used to having a toothbrush in her mouth and it helped to soothe her teething at times. Then, when she got her first tooth we started using her baby toothbrush on her daily. We bought the generic toothbrush and though it did the job.

When I found out that Oral-B was going to send me some age appropriate tooth care products and a book for Baby Bird, I was really excited. Oral-B is a trusted name in tooth care for all ages and it hit me that I purchased a toothbrush from a company that specializes in babies, but not necessarily in tooth care so I was looking forward to finding out if there were any differences — and there were.
Oral-B sent Baby Bird a toothbrush, bubblegum flavoured toothpaste, some floss and a book that talks about the different stages for different ages. The book we received is titled ‘Olivia the Tooth Fairy and the Truth about Teeth’. Baby Bird is a little shy of 2 years, so we asked for the products in Stage 2 which are from 2 – 4 years old.

The toothbrushes are designed to suit a certain age group. The Stage 1 comes with a larger handle so that parents can hold it to brush their kid’s teeth for them. Our Stage 2 brush came with a smaller handle and a nice handle with grip for Baby Bird to hold on to. The bristles on the toothbrush are softer than her old brush and are designed to help clean all of the way to the back. Baby Bird loves to clean her own teeth so we started by letting her move the brush around on her own. Occasionally, she asks us to help her brush and we are also teaching her by brushing our teeth at the same time that she brushes hers so she gets used to the proper motion of the brush. The tip of the brush is slender and it fits easily into Baby Bird’s mouth and there are even soft gum bumpers on the tip of the brush that help to protect Baby Bird’s tender gums while we/she is brushing. To top it off, the brush comes with various Disney character designs.
We received also received the Stage 3 toothpaste with Disney Princesses on it. As soon as Baby Bird tasted the Bubblegum flavour, she grabbed the toothpaste and tried to run away with it. Translate that to read she really likes the taste. Before we were using our toothpaste… Hey, first time parents here, we didn’t know! We used 1/2 pea size, but Baby Bird does prefer this new taste.
We also received some Oral-B Satin Floss. Although Baby Bird is close to having two teeth touch, she isn’t quite there. I have been preparing her for flossing though by having her watch me. Once she starts flossing, I will post our nightmares success stories here.
Lastly, we received the book ‘Olivia the Tooth Fairy and the Truth about Teeth’ which is great for parents to learn about your child’s stage. The book is put together by Oral-B with the help of a few dentists, including a pediatric dentist, and a mother of four children and author. It covers various myths and facts about dental care. For example, did you know that asthma is NOT the most prevalent childhood disease? Its cavities and they are a whopping five times more common than asthma. The book then goes into each stage starting from birth. There is a lot of great information in this book.
Check out Oral-B’s website in Canada, the US, or international locations. There is a lot of interesting articles and product information. You can even print posters for your kids to teach proper dental care.
The Oral-B Stages product line can be bought at mass retail, drug and grocery stores across Canada. Pretty much any where you buy your tooth brushes.
My verdict on the Oral-B stages is all positive. Going forward I will be buying my daughter’s toothbrushes and other products from a company that specializes in dental care. I learned a lot from the booklet I was sent and I am glad to be staying on top of her oral hygiene now instead of when it’s too late!
And also thanks to Oral-B, one lucky reader is going to win a family tooth care pack loaded with products from Oral-B and Crest for all of the kids in your household.

I have two kids – a 3-year old boy and a 5-month old girl. Our routine for our son is to brush his teeth (he helps…sort of) every evening, and any morning that we can work into the routine. with our daughter, we only rub/wipe her teeth with a washcloth for now.

I have twin almost-3-year-olds (girls). Our teeth care routine is we brush teeth before naps and bed. They each brush their own teeth while I brush the other's. We need to introduce flossing soon – but I haven't gotten there yet!

cdziuba@aol.com I have four kids, and there are times the Tooth Fairy forgot to come, so she/he had to double up the money the next night! My kids all have excellent oral hygiene, I insist on it.

HI,
my dtr is almost 19mths old. I have been buying the oral b stages brushes for a while now – she won't let me brush her teeth at all but she will chew on the brush and walk around with it in her mouth all the time – we have to keep a couple out for her all the time otherwise she wants to take ours – she likes the variety!!

I have one child – a little boy who is 11 months old. We are trying to get him used to the toothbrush and starting to regularly brush his (now) 4 little teeth. I have been brushing his teeth at diaper changing time and letting him hold and chew on the little toothbrush as a distraction during the actual diaper change. Well, a few days ago I heard myself say something I never expected to say in my entire life – "No, please don't brush your penis with your toothbrush". My husband heard this and started laughing. Two things: 1 – I now keep a diary of odd things that come out of my mouth and 2 – he REALLY NEEDS A NEW TOOTHBRUSH!

I have two little boys. The oldest brushes every morning and night, and is just starting to learn about flossing. The little one is just about to pop his first tooth, so the baby brush is making it's way out any day now!

I have two girls and they brush their teeth 2 or 3 times a day. We told tell them they need to brush away the plaque bugs and they tell us they can see them when they spit.
Great review. Mr. OCD was uncomfortable for Monkey to start a tooth care regiment until her 2nd birthday which is in a few weeks.
I have been wondering how to handle it. I think I'll go with this brand your right, tooth care rather then baby care (especially since we are hitting "do it myself" stage)
