It’s been 16 months since I last painted my nails. I remember it fondly, Papa Bird bought me a “day at the spa” at a place that specializes in pampering pregnant women. After that wonderful day, I didn’t see the point of putting it on myself, I felt like a whale in my third trimester and figured me wearing nail polish was only slightly prettier than a hippo with lipstick!
After Baby Bird was born, I was afraid of wearing nail polish on my hands because of the chemicals. I really don’t know what goes into regular nail polish, but from the way it smells it can’t be good and I since my fingers are always near her face (and now pulling things out of her mouth…) I didn’t want to chance some chips here and there being swallowed.
I was sent some nail polish and remover to try out from Piggy Paint. Piggy Paint is a water-based, non-flammable polish that is specially formulated of natural ingredients. It is a kid-friendly polish without the accompanying drawbacks of traditional polishes. It is free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate and acetone. And I argue, it is great for moms as well. To learn more about Piggy Paint, click HERE.
The nail polish goes on very easily and looks just like regular polish. The colours are fun and bright and once it dries, it stays on like regular polish does. The nail polish remover works just as quickly as regular remover, but it doesn’t have that “chemical” smell. Probably because it doesn’t have those harsh chemicals.
When it came time to take the polish off though, you have a choice to either use their polish remover, or just to scratch it off with your nail. I was able to easily scratch the polish off of my nails. Don’t get me wrong, the polish doesn’t come off easily if you are wearing it, but you can work it off with your nail when you are done with it. So in my opinion, instead of buying the remover, use the money to buy another beautiful colour instead (or four). I am looking forward to our “mother-daughter” moments of painting our nails and talking girl talk!
