Silver Lining

We found out last week that Baby Bird did not make it into her daycare for September and I was a little bummed out by it this weekend as we had some big decisions to make.

The biggest decision being that I will not be going back to work this year. I have requested a year off unpaid to stay with Baby Bird until we are able to get her into the daycare we have chosen.

This means that in one month, my maternity leave benefits run out and we will be officially down to a single income. For us, it will be tight, but we will be okay. Papa Bird and I have been learning to live off of just his salary alone. When we were first married, we used my salary on home renos, paying down debt and savings and we lived off of his paycheck. Now, the renos are all done, the credit cards are paid off and we have a good savings started, so one year of just his salary will be a challenge, but I know we can do it.

So, I will be listing some stuff on EBay (I’ll post here when I do), and I will be relaunching my design site as well in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned for a contest in line with that.

On the bright side, I get to spend another year watching our angel grow. I love every minute with her, so this makes me very happy.

Just to clarify, I am located in Canada as well. This is on top of my 1 year maternity leave. I will be listing my item on EBay shortly.

I am feeling better about my decision to stay home and am focused on building my design business to earn some extra income.

Congratulations on your 1 year at home even if it's not what you originally planned. In Canada we get a 1 year maternity leave and I know we take it for granted because we're just so used to it. I can't imagine how hard it would be to go back to work way sooner than you'd like.

eBay is great for selling thigns and making extra money, good luck!

Good luck with reworking your budget, I know it can be hard on one income, but I am sure it will be worth it!

Good for you. You won't regret it. We did the same thing and although money is tight sometimes, it has been the best thing for our family. Enjoy it while you can.
