Papa Bird and I are now paying for our sins. For the past 8 months we have been letting Baby Bird fall asleep in our arms at night. I know it isn’t a huge deal, but now we are trying to get her to self-soothe and fall asleep on her own. This is proving to be a little hard on her and a lot hard on us.
Looking back, I think we let her fall asleep on us more for our benefit than hers. Watching her doze off peacefully knowing she trusts us to keep her safe while she slumbers is such an amazing thing. Now we get to replace that with putting her in her crib and listening to her cry through the baby monitor. The thing that is the hardest is knowing if we just went in and held her, she would be sleeping in 5 minutes versus the hour of wakeful crying (both hers and ours).
This past week has also been tough on her schedule. My parents were in town visiting and all of our routines were thrown off. She usually has a bedtime routine, but with visitors, we forgot to adhere to it as well.
On top of that one of our cats went to the vet yesterday as we thought she was having trouble with her bowels. It turns out she actually has arthritis in both her back knees so she whimpers when she uses the cat box because of the strain on her joints – poor girl. She stayed over night and I picked her up this morning.
What a day… Baby Bird is down for a nap now and I am going to watch some TV.
